A Club Called Rhonda: Todd Edwards

Now this place is an absolute scene! Ya wanna let your freak flag fly? Well poppa found the place for you. That place is Rhonda Club. It was my first time going to one of these events, and a bit confusing at first. Apparently they switch locations between a club in Silverlake, and a club in downtown Los Angeles. Once we figured out where exactly we were going, things were still pretty confusing. But WHATEVER!! We were sure of one thing, we were about to see Todd Edwards. LEGENDS ARE REAL

Once a couple buddies and myself got in line, we immediately encountered people of all walks of life. We couldn’t even be sure who was what gender, to be perfectly frank. After about 20 minutes, a bouncer told us they were at capacity and no one else was going to get in. At that point, we decided to have a drink at the Silverlake Lounge. Turns out it was Spanish Tranny night! HOT DAMN!!

After we saw enough at “The Lounge” we decided to try our luck in line again. We got in after about 10 minutes. The bouncers were a bunch of idiots! However, I will say that everyone else was fun, and as cliche as it sounds, everyone was there for the music, which is always awesome. Once we got inside the vibe was great, and the beats were funky as hell. Todd was throwing down, and blasting us with those legendary YUMA BEATS!

Here is the best video I could find, but it does not do the place justice what so ever. You can hear how excited the crowd was, though. so there’s that!

Despite the venue being an absolute sweat box, it was a very fun night. The crowd is pretty “out there.” But, I am out there as well so I was just fine with that. Also, the street tacos were out of this world. WE OUT HERE!!!
You can count on seeing your bro Kiwi at the next Rhonda Club, that is for damn sure.

The Right Frame of Mind: Episode 10

Live every Wednesday, noon – 1 p.m. on KCSCRadio.com

Hello everyone & welcome to Episode 10 of The Right Frame of Mind on KCSCRadio.com!

Unfortunately, much like Episode 3 of TRFOM, this week’s show did not record properly in our archives. But, lucky for you, I can recreate it to the best of my ability by explaining my thoughts going into, and during, the broadcast.

This week was all about dirtybird Records, hailing from San Francisco, Calif.

Time  Title Artist
12:01 pm Rood Boy Mark Starr
12:06 pm Drum Machine Munnibrotherz
12:11 pm The Only One Shadow Child
12:18 pm The Pull Friend Within
12:24 pm Night Calling Justin Martin
12:28 pm Don’t Go Justin Martin
12:34 pm Ghettos & Gardens (Claude VonStroke remix) Justin Martin
12:41 pm Altitude Justin Jay
12:47 pm Femme Fatale Justin Jay
12:54 pm Jack Breach
12:58 pm Wheelgunner (Dub) Justin Martin & Ardalan

My first four tracks this week come from the dirtybird Players. This album featured a compilation of some of the labels newest and upcoming artists. Featured on the show are Mark Starr, Munnibrotherz, Shadow Child and Friend Within. Check out the previews of their tracks below.

From there, I transitioned into one of my favorite members of dirtybird, Justin Martin. Justin’s release of Ghettos & Gardens last year was a really great step in his career and his tracks became even more well known across genres for many DJs.

The ultimate dirtybird duo featured on this track. The title track from Justin Matin‘s “Ghettos & Gardens” remixed by Barclay Crenshaw, more commonly known as Claude VonStroke. These two have been the face of the label since it originated in 2003.

One of the youngest members of dirtybird, Justin Jay still attends school as the University of Southern California (USC). But, that hasn’t stopped him from creating producing some of the best tracks this label has to offer. Clearly, a bright future ahead for this kid. His release “Altitude” was another track featured on the dirtybird Players Club.

I will gladly go on record saying this next track is one of the hottest tracks on the planet right now.
Breach – Jack
PLUS…. Bonus previews.
“I want your body, everybody wants your body……..”

Justin Martin & Ardalan combine for the track I closed with. Also off the dirtybird Players Club.

If you like what you heard here, be sure not to miss the Mezzanine show this Friday, May 17. You can check out the Facebook link here, or click the photo below for the actual event page.

Welp… That’s it for me. Remember to check me out on FacebookTwitter & my other Blog.

Last Night Ruby Skye San Francisco TJR

TJR at Ruby Skye 5.11.13

TJR, a man known for his funky house beats and large stature, graced the stage at Ruby Skye in San Francisco this past Saturday night and so I ventured to Ruby for the first time in 2013. Hard to believe I am saying that, but I believe it’s true (still partially unsure.) I was quite excited for this evening, as TJR has been producing some stellar tracks in the past year, starting with Funky Vodka, and eventually reaching the monster Ode To Oi, which is just sheer fun.

His newest track, Whats Up Suckaz has the best preview ever:

Team Sempersonic down in the southern part of this lovely state have already seen TJR dj multiple times and had many good things to say, so finally it was my turn. On an absolutely beautiful San Francisco night (was maybe 55 degrees with fog so think that we could have swam in it down to the club) we headed off to Ruby. After checking our coats, my friend comes out of the bathroom laughing, which leads to me asking what is up. He tells me there is a couple hooking up in the bathroom. I laugh, and decide to see for myself. As I walk into the bathroom, this dude is walking out chuckling to himself. I get in there and see some girl in a dress washing her mouth out in the sink. It’s not even 11pm yet. Good look Ruby, good look.

Mr TJR comes on a bit before midnight, and we are off to the races with some funky house. A refreshing change to say the least, the first hour was just glorious funky, groovy house and everyone was getting down on the dance floor. Funky Vodka made an appearance and it was getting sweaty. I’d try and give you a track list, but I had my share of funky vodka already if you will and I was too busy shakin what my momma gave me to worry about that. He did whip out Tonic – Big Fat at one point which had everyone going off.  Quite enjoyable first hour.

MAN AT WORK

I must commend TJR’s dj skills here too, he was up scratching and mixing, working the entire time and you could tell he was into it. His track selection was on point and his mixing was real solid. Rather delightful, and it is obvious he knows his shit. In the second hour he drifted a little more to the electro-house side of things, and everyone continued to get down. We got some nice tracks like the My Feelings For Hells Bells mashup, which I have been a fan of for a while now and have not heard live recently, along with The Code, which goes oh so hard all the time. We also got the Congorock remix of One, which brought back lovely memories of days past at Ruby and this monster from Carnage and Borgore:

The highlight of the night had to be Ode To Oi, which not only sent the crowd into hysteria, but also had matching lazers of Oi. You know you’ve made it when lazers spell out part of your track name.

Seriously, lazer ois. Can’t beat that. Towards the end it got a bit more progressive and just before 2 am, TJR bounced. So did we, pretty much immediately. Cheers TJR to a great night, you have some serious skills and you are welcome back in SF anytime. Hopefully next time we get a chance to say what up.

Beat Service Boom Jinx Mike Sonar Rank 1

Trancing Out With Space Cadet Daniel: Part 2

Space Cadet Daniel here! Just returned to earth with some hot trance tracks.

Mike Sonar – Hallotron (Original Mix) [Infinity]

Upbeat funky groove at the beginning of this GREAT trance track from Mike Sonar. This is the trance of today! I love the melody here…very beautiful! Track was released on 4-15-13, and its been one of my favs lately.

Boom Jinx, Maor Levi, & Ashley Tomberlin – When You Loved Me (Original Mix) [Anjunabeats]

WOW WOW WOW! Now anyone that knows me knows Anjunabeats is by far my favorite record label.
We bring the energy down JUST a notch for this one. Boom Jinx, Maor Levi, & Ashley Tomberlin really got it right with this one. Pure bliss here. Haunting Vocals, Guitar, and a beat to get you MOVING. This is it, perfect track for me. This will be released on 5-13-13.

Rank 1 – Floorlifter [High Contrast]

Heavy hitter here! Rank 1 really shows you why this track is called floorlifter. Get ready to be LIFTED. This is out now.

Beat Service – On the Edge (Original Mix)

Now this one is a true work of art. Been very impressed with Beat Service as of late. This has it all, incredible melodies, heavy electro synths. Great creativity here. This will truly put you in a trance. Out exclusively right now on beatport.

Tritonal Feat. Underdown – Bullet That Saved Me (Festival Mix)

I think this is what Tritonal meant to have bullet that saved me sound like in the first place. I really do love the original as well and recommend checking that out as well, however this one just feels right. They nail it, and it will put a smile on your face. Truly for a festival.
